Jerrald King Goldsmith (February 10, 1929 – July 21, 2004) was an American composer and conductor renowned for his prolific contributions to film and television scoring over more than five decades. and 17 other Oscar nominations, alongside five Primetime Emmy Awards for works such as Star Trek: Voyager and Masada., which featured the eerie ondes Martenot instrument and earned him his first Oscar nomination., Chinatown (1974), Alien (1979), and Basic Instinct (1992), showcasing his versatility across genres from science fiction and horror to drama and thriller. and several television series, while his later works included Air Force One (1997) and The Mummy (1999).( A passionate conductor, he frequently led performances of his own compositions with orchestras, particularly in the UK, until his death from cancer at age 75 in Beverly Hills, California.( Survived by his second wife, Carol, and five children, Goldsmith's legacy endures as one of the 20th century's most influential film composers.(

He was considered one of film music's most innovative and influential composers. He was nominated for eighteen Academy Awards (winning in 1977 for The Omen), six Grammy Awards, five Primetime Emmy Awards, nine Golden Globe Awards, and four British Academy Film Awards.

He composed scores for five films in the Star Trek franchise, three in The Omen franchise, and three in the Rambo franchise, as well as for films including Logan's Run, Planet of the Apes, Tora! Tora! Tora!, Patton, Papillon, Chinatown, Alien, Poltergeist, The Secret of NIMH, Medicine Man, Gremlins, Hoosiers, Total Recall, Basic Instinct, Sleeping with the Enemy, Air Force One, L.A.
