Story

Lena Himmelstein arrived with a needle and a problem nobody’s department store wanted to own. Maternity wear, then larger sizes, became a business because she treated them as fashion rather than a hush.

Lane Bryant grew into a national name. The revolution was practical: a woman could walk in, be measured without apology, and leave dressed for the life she was already living.
