In brief
Maxim Vengerov (born 20 August 1974) is a Russian-born Israeli violinist, violist, and conductor widely regarded as one of the greatest living string players, celebrated for his technical mastery, lyrical expressiveness, and innovative approaches to both performance and education.
Born in Novosibirsk, Siberia, into a musical family—his mother was a conductor and singer, and his father an oboist—Vengerov began violin studies at age four and made his public debut as a soloist at five, quickly establishing himself as a prodigy. He trained initially with Galina Turchaninova in Novosibirsk, practicing up to eight hours daily, before studying with Zakhar Bron in Russia and later moving to Israel with his family in 1990 at age 16.
Maxim Vengerov was born on August 20, 1974, in Novosibirsk, Siberia, then part of the Soviet Union and now in Russia, as the only child of a musically inclined Jewish family.
