In brief
David Arquette (born September 8, 1971) is an American actor, film director, producer, and professional wrestler best known for his role as Deputy Dewey Riley in the Scream horror franchise.
Born in a Subud commune in Bentonville, Virginia, to actor Lewis Arquette and actress, poet, and acting teacher Mardi Nowak, Arquette is the youngest of five siblings in a prominent Hollywood acting dynasty that includes sisters Rosanna and Patricia Arquette, and brothers Richmond and the late Alexis Arquette. His paternal grandfather was comedian Cliff Arquette, famous for his character Charley Weaver. Arquette's early life involved growing up in a creative, unconventional environment influenced by his parents' artistic pursuits and his mother's Jewish heritage from Polish and Russian roots. He began his acting career in the early 1990s with television roles, including Keith "Two-Bit" Matthews on the Fox series The Outsiders (1990) and appearances on Parenthood (1990–1991).
He was the youngest of five children in a family deeply immersed in the arts and influenced by diverse religious backgrounds. His mother, Brenda "Mardi" Olivia (née Nowak), was an Ashkenazi Jewish actress, poet, theater operator, activist, acting teacher, and therapist of Polish and Russian descent, while his father, Lewis Arquette, was an actor who converted from Catholicism to Islam during the family's time on the commune. This interfaith dynamic, blending Judaism and Islam alongside the Subud movement's spiritual practices, contributed to a household environment rich in cultural and philosophical exploration.
