Full articleKaty Tur (born October 26, ) is an American broadcast journalist and author who works as a correspondent for NBC News and anchors the MSNBC weekday program Katy Tur Reports. The daughter of pioneering aerial journalists Zoey Tur (formerly Bob Tur) and Marika Gerrard, Tur grew up immersed in Los Angeles news coverage, often accompanying her parents on helicopter rides to breaking stories, an experience that influenced her entry into reporting after graduating from the University of California, Santa Barbara with a philosophy degree in 2005. She rose to national prominence providing on-the-ground reporting from Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign rallies, where she faced direct criticism from the candidate, later detailing the chaotic events in her memoir Unbelievable: My Front-Row Seat to the Craziest Campaign in American History. In her 2022 memoir Rough Draft, Tur recounted a tumultuous childhood marked by her father's volatile behavior prior to transitioning to Zoey Tur, including episodes of rage that strained family relations and contributed to periods of estrangement.
In brief
Katy Tur learned live shots the hard way: a campaign bus, a rope line, a candidate who did not want the question. NBC put her on the 2016 trail and then in a studio chair of her own.
The show has changed names and still belongs to her. She writes books between hours, a correspondent who decided the desk could be as honest as the sidewalk.
