Story

Michael Schwerner and Andrew Goodman went south for Freedom Summer, a season of voter registration and freedom schools. In Neshoba County they were stopped, abducted, and killed with their colleague James Chaney.

The crime became a national reckoning. Two Jewish New Yorkers and a Black Mississippian are remembered together because they chose the same dangerous work.
