Story
Bernard S. Cohen and Philip J. Hirschkop were Virginia lawyers willing to take a case that local custom called impossible. Richard and Mildred Loving had been sentenced for marrying across the color line.
The Court struck the bans down. Two Jewish attorneys, a couple who only wanted to go home, and a holding that still underwrites the right to marry.
