In brief
Sebastián Rozental (born 1 September 1976) is a Chilean-Israeli former professional footballer who played primarily as a centre-forward.
Rozental began his career with Universidad Católica in Chile, where he emerged as a promising talent and was named Chilean Footballer of the Year in 1996. In December 1996, at age 20, he made history by becoming Rangers FC's first South American signing, transferring from Universidad Católica for a then-record £4 million fee—the highest ever paid for a Chilean player. Despite early promise and scoring on his league debut in January 1997, his time at Rangers was hampered by persistent knee injuries and included loans to Universidad Católica (1999–2000) and Independiente (2000), limiting him to sporadic appearances over five years (1997–2001), during which he contributed to three Scottish Premier League titles and two Scottish Cup wins.
He grew up in a Jewish family in the Chilean capital, where his heritage played a role in his cultural upbringing.
Rozental is of Jewish descent, a heritage that significantly shaped his personal identity and facilitated opportunities in Israeli football clubs.
